Have you been dreaming of blue hues? Maybe you’ve been drawn to camo and sports equipment and feel prepared to take on the noise and mess of wrangling little boys. Perhaps you wish there was a way to conceive the boy you always dreamed of having? There might be some help out there for you actually to influence the sex of your future baby.
A study done in 2008 by Proceedings of the Royal Society B said women who consume more than 1,800 calories near the time of conception and who also pair that with an alkaline diet are more inclined to conceive a boy!1 Why an alkaline diet? An alkaline pH in the female body seems to favor “boy” sperm (sperm carrying the Y chromosome). So, if you’re up for the challenge and would like to try it, throwing together a salad with these alkaline foods might be your ticket into #boymom status!
8 Foods to Help Conceive a Boy
Spinach
Spinach is great! It is easy to buy and use and is a powerhouse in nutrition. Baby spinach or fully grown, it doesn’t matter. They are both incredibly alkalizing.
Kale
Kale is also great because of the fantastic properties it has! It’s cancer-fighting, anti-inflammatory, and it’s an antioxidant. It can get a bad rap because most people do not know how to prepare it properly, but eating kale 2-3 times per week has fantastic health benefits for your body!2
Broccoli
Broccoli is terrific for everyday meals; it supports the cardiovascular, digestive systems, and detoxification process. It also supports the immune system because it is an anti-inflammatory.
Avocado
Avocados are a great source of healthy fats and contain many benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties, heart health, anti-cancer, and blood-sugar benefits. Avocados tend to get mixed reviews because of their high-fat content, but they are a source of the HEALTHY fats our bodies need, so shove those opinions to the side and make yourself some guacamole!
Celery
Celery is highly alkaline and high in water content. Consequently, you can use celery as a base in lots of smoothies and soups. It also helps the immune system and inflammation in the body.
Cucumber
Cucumbers, made up of 95% water, are another excellent vegetable high in water content. They also serve as a great base in smoothies and soups. Cucumbers contain the right amount of lariciresinol, pinoresinol, and secoisolariciresinol (don’t try to pronounce those). These three lignans reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer types like breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers.3
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are a great source to include in your heavy alkaline diet. They have fantastic properties, like aiding digestion, being a good source of antioxidants, and they help prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Bell Peppers
Bell peppers tend to be a crowd favorite because they’re sweet, crunchy, and oh so refreshing. They are proven important in the fight against cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, macular degeneration, and more. They are arguably the best source of antioxidants, vitamins C, A, and E.
While many studies have been done to equally argue that sperm is the only deciding factor in gender selection, interestingly, the woman’s Ph can be more tolerant towards one type of sperm than the other. It couldn’t hurt to try this method to try and conceive a boy; if anything, you will feel much healthier!
