Little girl making valentine’s cookie

Celebrate heart day with your kids this year with one (or more!) of these FUN and EASY Valentine’s Day activities! There’s no better way to show your children how much you love them than by spending quality time together. Whatever age your little ones are, I’ve got a variety of ways that you can enjoy Valentine’s Day together that they are sure to love.

Valentine’s Day Activities for Kids

Valentine Read-In

Valentine's Day Activities To Do With Your Child

Make reading time more fun by having a Valentine’s Read-In! Grab some books with a Valentine’s or love theme. Then make a fort, turn off the lights, and read together with flashlights!

Make it cozy with pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals. Play classical music quietly in the background during a family “read-in” to help set the mood. You’ll be surprised at how long your little ones will enjoy reading time with these little touches that make it extra special.

I like to alternate between reading books aloud to my kids and giving them time to “read” on their own. You can grab love-themed books from your bookshelves or the library or buy new ones to add to your book collection. Here are some of our favorite Valentine-themed picture books:

Heart-a-Stack Challenge

Valentine's Day Activities To Do With Your Child

This game-based challenge is fun for the whole family! You need some heart candies and popsicle sticks; you place a popsicle stick in your mouth and slowly add heart candies to the stick. See who can stack the most hearts before they fall!

When finished, don’t forget to enjoy a heart candy or two (or three)! 😉

Valentine Card Station

Valentine's Day Activities To Do With Your Child

Another great Valentine’s Day activity is to set up a Valentine’s card station for your kids to make special Valentines for family and friends.

Depending on your child’s age and readiness, they can draw pictures of why they love someone and activities they like to do together. Or you can give sentence stems to guide them: “I love Granny because ______________.”

You can easily grab items from your current craft stash and supplement them with festive items from your local dollar store! Materials for your card station:

If a friend or family member lives far away, it’s the perfect opportunity to teach how to mail a letter. Or hand-deliver them and see the smiles on their faces!

Valentine Dance Party

Play a song list of love-themed songs and dance around! Here are some great options to add to your playlist that your kids will love!

You will have so much fun together, and you can also check off your workout for the day!

Build a Heart

Valentine's Day Activities To Do With Your Child

Grab some red Solo cups and place them in a heart formation. Begin stacking cups on top and see how tall your “heart” can get before falling! We also like to use popsicle sticks to stack with cups to provide more support.

It’s incredible how simply giving them new material can entertain your little ones. After building his heart, my son played with the cups and sticks for another hour!

Sensory Tub: Heart Hunting

Valentine's Day Activities To Do With Your Child

You can make a Valentine-themed sensory tub with simple materials for your kids to explore! Here’s what we used in ours:

Use child-safe kitchen utensils like spoons, ice cream scooper, and tongs to hunt for the heart candies. We love this kid-friendly set of tools you can grab for under $10!

With my five-year-old, I mixed 20 heart candies in the tub and challenged him to find them all. I gave the rule that he had to use the tools for hunting; he couldn’t use his hands. You can adjust this for your child’s age and interest. Digging in with your hands is super fun too!

Valentine Snack Board & Movie

Valentine's Day Activities To Do With Your Child

I love those pretty, themed snack boards that seem so popular now. But you know what I like even better? Letting my kids be involved in helping to make the snack board!

It may not always look perfect, but he has fun making it, which matters most! Here are some ideas for things to include on a kid-friendly Valentine’s snack board:

  • Marshmallow and strawberry kabobs (assembling these is fine motor practice too!)
  • White chocolate-dipped pretzels
  • Cinnamon popcorn
  • Heart-shaped cheese and sausage (use a heart-shaped cookie cutter)
  • Red peppers and ranch dip
  • Any Valentine’s treats or candies

Use a heart-shaped dish or a wooden board, or fill a cupcake pan with the treats. Let your little ones have fun and be creative in how they build the snack board.

Enjoy your snack board with a fun movie like:

I’m so excited to do all these Valentine’s Day activities with my kids and see which ones they love the most! Which activities will you try?

Mother making valentine cards with daughter

Are we feeling the LOVE yet? As we begin a new calendar year, we start by celebrating Valentine’s Day. Today I’m sharing some ideas for some fun Valentine’s Day crafts for kids. The best part is that your kids can do most of these activities using things you may already have around the house!

Valentine’s Day Crafts for Kids

1. Heart Letter Matching

7 Valentine's Day Crafts For Kids They'll Love

This one is super easy to make and doesn’t require many materials! Your kids will love it and come back to it again and again! Grab several pieces of colored construction paper (I chose to stick with red, white, and pink for the Valentine’s Day theme) and cut out 26 hearts. On one half of each heart, write the upper case letters. On the other side, write the lowercase equivalent. Then cut each heart in half down the center. Mix up the pieces and have your child match each heart to have an upper and lower case letter pair. This is a great hands-on learning activity for young kids that they’re sure to love!

2. Cotton Ball Painting

7 Valentine's Day Crafts For Kids They'll Love

This activity is all about the process and not the result! Using a piece of recycled cardboard, glue several cotton balls into the shape of a heart and set it aside to dry. Once the cotton balls have dried, fill a cupcake tin with water and drop several drops of food coloring into each section. Have your child use an eye dropper to transfer the colored water onto the cotton balls. You can purchase a set on Amazon cheaply if you don’t already have one. Using medicine droppers is a great fine motor activity for your child to work on coordination, finger strength, and grading force. It’s a great way to isolate and strengthen the muscles in your child’s fingers for writing, coloring, and other fine motor tasks.

3. Painted Rocks

7 Valentine's Day Crafts For Kids They'll Love

Spread some love around your neighborhood! Go for a walk with the kids and collect various rocks (what kid doesn’t love to go pick out rocks, right?). Then grab some paints and decorate the rocks however you’d like. You can help them write out messages of love using a permanent marker. Or leave them looking colorful! Then go around the neighborhood and leave the stones by mailboxes or near your neighbors’ doorsteps. This is a great way to teach kids how to spread positivity and do kind things for others. This activity is fun all year round, especially for Valentine’s Day!

4. How We Show Our Love

7 Valentine's Day Crafts For Kids They'll Love

Grab a marker and some construction paper, and have your kids help you list all the ways we can show our love. Younger kids may need some prompting, but once you give them a few ideas, they should be able to come up with some on their own. It’s a great conversation to have as a family around the dinner table. And it helps kids identify different feelings and how their actions impact others. If you have slightly older children, they could even be the ones to do the writing.

5. Yarn Heart

7 Valentine's Day Crafts For Kids They'll Love

Be still my heart! You can set this Valentine’s Day activity up in a couple of minutes, and it will preoccupy your little one for a good chunk of time! Cut out a heart from some recycled cardboard. Punch some holes along the edge, leaving about a 1-inch border. Give your child a bundle of red yarn (you can wrap some tape around the end to make it easier for them to lace) and have them practice lacing all around the edge of the heart. You can impose as much structure as you want for this activity (i.e., encouraging your child to lace just around the edge). But I decided to sit back and let our little guy go wherever he wanted with the yarn. Lacing is an excellent fine motor activity for kids, and the result of this project is adorable!

6. Heart Resist Painting

7 Valentine's Day Crafts For Kids They'll Love

This activity makes for an excellent gift for grandparents or other family members! Cut out a large heart and place it in the center of a piece of cardstock or a canvas. (I got these small canvases at the dollar store, so they’re incredibly affordable!) Gather some pink, red, and white paint and clip a cotton ball to the end of a clothespin (they will use it for dipping into the paint). Have your child dip the cotton ball into the paint and dot it all around the canvas, being careful not to disrupt the heart shape. It’s best to have your child work from the lightest to the darkest colors to avoid a big smear of paint. Some color mixing is good and makes the result look pretty, but you want some definition of pink vs. red.

7. I LOVE YOU Cards

7 Valentine's Day Crafts For Kids They'll Love

These cards could not be any cuter and are incredibly easy to make! Trace your child’s hand on a piece of pink construction paper and cut it out. Glue down the middle and ring fingers so that the hand forms the sign for “I love you” in American Sign Language. I glued down just the fingertips so that the hand was sort of 3D. Once the fingers are dry, glue the whole hand cut out onto a folded piece of red construction paper and write “I love you” on the front. Have your child help you come up with a sweet message to a loved one, and there you have it! The most precious little Valentine’s card that costs hardly anything!

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your little love bugs! I hope you have fun doing these Valentine’s Day crafts for kids!

Valentine's Day Kid's Baskets

I have so many sweet memories of running down the stairs to see the Valentine’s Day gift baskets my mom would prepare for my sisters and me while growing up. I loved all the red, pink, and hearts you could find. Now it’s even more fun — I get to make Valentine’s gift baskets for my kids!

I don’t need much of an excuse to pamper my kids with fun new things, and Valentine’s gift baskets are no exception. There’s nothing like bringing a smile to their faces on this sweet holiday that reminds them just how much they are loved.

If putting together themed baskets stresses you out, don’t worry, mama! It doesn’t take much to make sweet and memorable DIY Valentine’s gift baskets your kids will love. Read on for tips on making the perfect Valentine’s basket for kids of all ages.

DIY Valentine’s Day Gift Baskets for Kids

I like to select an item or two from different categories when making Valentine’s gift baskets. This gives the basket some variety and makes it so much fun for kids!

1. Valentine’s Basket or Container

First, you want a basket or container to hold and display all your Valentine’s goodies. Here are my pro tips for how to get the best bang for your buck:

2. Valentine’s Day Pajamas

My kids can always use a new pair of PJs. We love having special pajamas for each holiday, and Valentine’s Day is no exception! Heart jammies like this two-piece set work well for little girls. Even if you don’t want to go wild with hearts, you can get something in solid red or pink, like this solid red PJ set I got for my son.

3. Books

It’s so fun to pull out seasonal books and share them over and over when the holiday rolls back around! My 5-year-old is a big fan of Pete the Cat, so he’s getting “Valentine’s Day is Cool.” I grabbed the “Ollie’s Valentine” board book for my 1-year-old. It’s such a sweet option for babies and toddlers.

4. Toys

You’ve got to have a fun heart-shaped toy in your Valentine’s basket! These stackable hearts are a great learning toy for babies, and they even double as a teether. Older kids will like this mini heart puzzle. Or grab this set of 12 mini heart-shaped slinkies. My kids both love them!

My kids also love getting new stuffed animals and little pillows. These plush sets from Slumberkins are so sweet and soft, and this Squishmallows rose is the cutest plush toy for Valentine’s Day. This set of heart pillows is also adorable. Your kids will love them! And for your littlest Valentine, this personalized silicone heart teether is the perfect thing.

5. A Special Treat

I made my kids’ treats extra special by getting personalized heart cookies! You can order them at a local bakery or make your own, as I did. It doesn’t cost much and is more thoughtful than bagged candies. But if you’re short on time, we understand! These mini chocolate chip cookies are a quick, healthier option. These Valentine-shaped pretzels are also a great choice if you’re looking for something with less sugar.

6. Something Practical

Finally, I like to have something practical in the baskets. Think about something they need anyway, and see if you can make it work for a Valentine. For instance, I got my son a red Disney “Cars” toothbrush and this black beanie. For the baby, she’s getting a heart-shaped plate and new socks. I just found these items in a Valentine’s color, and it’s killing two birds with one stone!

How To Display Your Valentine’s Gift Baskets

two children wearing valentine's pj's and holding valentine's day toys

Finally, you can make your Valentine’s gift basket display extra fun with simple decorations like balloons, garlands, and/or a banner. Hang a white sheet on the wall, add your decorations, and you’ve got a DIY Valentine display corner. It’s also the perfect spot to take photos of your kids with their gift baskets. Just remember to have them put on their new Valentine’s jammies first!

I hope you are inspired to make your DIY Valentine’s basket with as many or as few of these items as you would like. Knowing my children will remember these special moments as they grow up sure makes it worthwhile for me. Enjoy loving on your little ones, and may you have an extra sweet Valentine’s Day together!

Little curly boy holding heart application and laughing at camera on pink background.

When I was a kid, my mom would leave Valentine’s Day gifts for me to find at the end of my bed when I woke up on Valentine’s Day every year. The presents were usually a cute, new casual outfit and a small, heart-shaped box of chocolates. These surprises always made me feel special and loved.

These days, I like to leave little heart-themed trinkets for my girls in their Valentine envelope-shaped chair backers that my aunt gave us a few years ago. I typically find fun goodies like cups and pencil toppers in the Target Dollar Spot to fill their chair backers every morning of the second week of February. Watching a kid’s eyes light up when they see their surprises, as mine did, is so fun!

Little Girl Mixing Ingredients in Red Bowl.

Toddlers get into everything, don’t they? So, let’s give their little hands something to do. Here are a couple of creative Valentine’s Day crafts for toddlers I’ll be making with my little girl this year. Not only will you have a fun craft at the end, but they are a great sensory activity for your little ones too.

First up: homemade playdough hearts. Not only is it fun for your toddler to get their hands into,  but they can also pass them out to her friends during their next playdate.

Homemade Playdough Recipe

Playdough Hearts

What You Will Need:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 tbs cooking oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • food coloring of choice (I used these pretty pastel colors)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix together all of the dry ingredients. This includes the flour, cream of tartar, and salt. You may wonder what the cream of tartar is for: it’s to keep the playdough nice and malleable!
  2. Separately, mix the water and food coloring together in a medium-sized pot.
  3. Once that’s combined, add your oil.
  4. Add your dry ingredients to the pot and mix well.
  5. Cook on medium heat until a dough starts to form. I keep stirring to keep the playdough all together.
  6. Once it starts clumping together, take off the heat but allow it to cook down for a couple of minutes.
  7. Spread the playdough on a kitchen mat or baking pan and knead it until it’s nice and soft.

Yes, that first part was more of a craft for mom or dad but now your toddler gets to have some fun!

Penny and Playdough

After the playdough is done I roll it out and give my little girl heart-shaped cookie cutters. Depending on how old your little one is you might have to help them press it into the playdough, or they might be able to do it themselves! Either way, they will love smashing it into the playdough.

Once they are cut out I place the playdough hearts in cute, air-tight gift bags and let her hand out to her little friends.

DIY Heart-Shaped Stamps

Heart 5

My second favorite creative craft for toddlers is heart-shaped stamps. The great part about these stamps is they are free to make!

How To Make the Stamps:

  1. Simply take an empty toilet paper roll and press in half.
  2. Then take one of the creases and fold it inward to make a heart.
  3. Use scotch tape to secure the heart in place. That’s it!
  4. Now load up on some pretty Valentine’s Day color paints, and pour it onto a paper plate or bowl.

Set your toddler up with either white or even colored paper, and the stamp. Depending on the age of your toddler you may be able to dip the stamp for them or offer a little help. (Your floors may thank you.)

Heart 3

While it might seem simple, this craft allows little ones to improve their coordination. Plus, it’s just fun for them. And after your little one is done, frame it and give it to a grandparent. They are sure to love it.

I hope you and your little ones enjoy these creative Valentine’s Day crafts for toddlers. I know they will have fun and making them and will be able to brighten someone’s day when they give them away. And if you’re looking for more Valentine’s Day craft ideas, check out this board on Pinterest!

5 Sexy Time Essential Oils to use on Valentine’s Day

Did you know that plants and sex can go hand in hand? I know – that sounds a little strange. But it’s very true – scientific, too!1 I’ve been using essential oils for many years now. After much research and usage in my own life and marriage, we’ve seen some incredible benefits in our bodies, emotions, and health when we’ve incorporated them into our everyday lives. Especially in marriage, sex is something that is very, very important. Yet, at the same time, it’s taboo to talk about — because it is so intimate and because everyone’s relationship and love life are completely different.

So, to keep this as general yet informative as possible, if you’d like to experiment with something fun and natural with your partner this Valentine’s Day, consider using these essential oils to spice things up during sexy time!

The name “Jasmine” comes from the Persian word “Yasmin,” a popular cultural name for a woman – hence why this aroma is so pleasing to women. • Reduces feelings of inadequacy
  • Brings relief during PMS
  • Supports healthy skin
  • Improves sexual mood
  • Combats premature ejaculation

Other popular essential oils to use on Valentine’s Day in the bedroom are Lavender, Peppermint, and Stress Away.

How to Use These Essential Oils

Diffuse Them and Inhale Them!

People love to diffuse their oils of choice in the bedroom because of the powerful frequencies they encourage in the human body. If you and your partner are the kind of couple that plans nights of intimacy, consider diffusing one (or a combo) of these oils in the bedroom with the door shut to really enhance the frequency levels of that space. Or, turn on the diffuser when you are ready to have some alone time. Also, inhaling these oils is highly important because inhaling is a direct line to the limbic part of your brain, which holds the seat of your emotions.

Apply Them!

People have been known to massage 2-3 drops of their oils of choice on the neck, shoulders, inner thighs, and lower abdomen as a way to wind down the body and heighten sexual senses. Many have loved the feeling of adding one drop of essential oil to their Sensation Massage Oil during intimacy, using it as a natural lubricant. Others have applied this directly to the inner thighs, above the pubic bone, or more sensitive sexual areas. Some choose to dilute essential oils, while others do not. It is up to your personal preference.

Many of you might already have an excellent sex life – while some of you might have things you want to improve on. Whether it’s physical performance, emotional support, or spiritual connection, these essential oils (try them on Valentine’s Day) are sure to enhance that special part of your life.

Sweet little boy of 5 years old and his sister of 2 years old give tulips flowers to their mom during Valentine's Day.

Sure — flowers, chocolate, and jewelry are Valentine’s Day staples. Safe go-to’s when you’re not sure what to get your lady on this special day of love. However, for some of us exhausted moms, there are about 1,000 other gifts we would love to have instead. Well, maybe not 1,000. But there are definitely 10 I can think of off the top of my head that would be considered the “best Valentine’s Day gift ever.”

So, if you have an exhausted mom in your life who’d like a gift that is outside of the norm, let’s browse through some ideas that she’d REALLY love!

1. Spa Day

Every woman on the planet loves to be pampered. To simply lay there, or sit there, and let someone make them look and feel beautiful. Consider booking a spa day for your wife/mom/sister/girlfriend to get a massage, pedicure, manicure, or facial. Or, make her an appointment to get her hair highlighted, cut, and styled, or even a nice makeover by a professional makeup artist.

2. Hire a Babysitter

While we love our children to pieces, sometimes we just want to get out of the house for a date night or some alone time. If you don’t have family or friends nearby, who are willing to watch your kids for a few hours, pay a trusted babysitter to take care of your littles. If you don’t know who to call, ask some of your local friends for babysitter recommendations, or search on websites like Care.com.

3. A Maid Service

We all know that a clean house and organized life brings so much more peace and relaxation for the exhausted mom – and for everyone in the home, for that matter. And look, for us moms who have to juggle a thousand things in a day, sometimes the LAST thing we want to do is clean the house. Hiring a housekeeper to do some deep cleaning is a huge blessing, and a big weight lifted off. Ask around for housekeeper recommendations in your neighborhood, or search online for maid services in your area like Maid Brigade or Molly Maid.

4. “Sleep In” Days

Between waking up with the baby multiple times at night and waking up early when the other kids are ready to tackle the day, it’s no wonder we moms are so exhausted. If you’re a spouse, or if you live in the same house, consider taking over the responsibility of getting up early with the kids and tending to the baby at night, even if it’s just for a few days. Sleep is essential for us to be the best moms we can be for our kids, so letting mom get a good night’s rest or sleep until noon would be such a gift!

5. Uninterrupted Relaxing Bath

For some of us moms who have small children, we never get to bathe alone, let alone go to the bathroom without kids at our feet. Or, for a mom who has a demanding full-time job, there’s nothing like taking a long, hot bath. Consider decorating the tub and bathwater with rose petals, candles lit all around, and buy her some bubble bath soap to bathe in. Once the room has a serene and romantic vibe, let her relax in the tub as long as she wants. Make sure the kids are occupied in the other room so that she can recharge without any interruptions.

6. Food Delivery Service

Sometimes grocery shopping can be tedious and having to plan meals can be stressful. There are tons of awesome food delivery services available nowadays, where they ship meals to your door, without the need to go grocery shopping. Some companies ship you the ingredients and groceries to make the meals from scratch, while other companies ship the food pre-made and ready to cook. Consider looking into companies like Home Chef, Sun BasketBlue Apron, or Hello Fresh, which will make cooking and meal planning so much easier.

7. Wine

I mean, does this one need an explanation? Wine is amazing. And for many moms, a perfect way to wind down after a crazy day. There are also some great wine companies that ship bottles to your door every month. One of my favorites is Dry Farm Wines, which has tasty wine selections that are also organic, low in chemicals, and with no added sugars. Getting a subscription to receive a few bottles every month would be an awesome gift!

8. A Shopping Spree. Alone.

Shopping is always fun – but shopping with kids is always short-lived. Give mom some money to splurge on whatever she wants, but arrange it to where she can do it by herself, and with no time limit on when to return home. Give her a budget, watch the kids for the day, or find someone to babysit and let her have a great day of buying anything and everything she wants to splurge on herself.

9. Essential Oils

Tons of moms swear by these that oils help balance their hectic lives in about a thousand different ways. There are essential oils for helping mom rest, keeping her emotions steady, supporting her immune system, making her home smell amazing, and so much more. This was, by far, the best thing I’ve ever bought for myself, and keeps my life as a mom much happier and healthier.

10. “50 Things I Love About You.”

Sometimes, all mom wants to know is that she is appreciated. Kind words, recognizing all that she does for the whole family, showing her that all of her selflessness doesn’t go unnoticed is sweeter than any expensive gift you could ever buy. A really awesome (and inexpensive) gift idea that mom would love is a jar filled with “50 Things I Love About You.” Just write 50 different things you adore about her, cut them up on separate slips of paper, and place them inside the jar. She will be able to pull them out, one by one, and read all the things you (and the kids) love about her. Talk about a heartwarming gift she can keep forever!

In any case, make Valentine’s Day special this year for mom. She deserves it; after all, she does love and cares for everyone around her. If you chose to do any of these ideas, I promise, she would absolutely love it!
